What do I stand for?
Serving The Community
- The White County School System has won many awards and is thriving for the most part, although there are issues that affect us all.
- I don't have a child or grandchild in the system, nor am I related to any employees. I can balance the needs of the community – its taxpayers, parents, teachers, staff and students – so that we all succeed. I'll do this with passion, but also reasonably and objectively.
- School safety is paramount. But it won't be solved by slogans or quick fixes. It's a complex issue that should be considered carefully. I'm willing to make the hard decisions.
- Parent involvement is vital to successful schools. I want to hear your thoughts and encourage you to reach out.
Who's Linda Erbele and why run for BOE?
I'm married to John Erbele, and together, we have 4 grown children and 4 grandchildren. I have a degree in journalism from UGA and spent 20 years with BellSouth in the corporate world. Since 1997, I've written for magazines and newspapers.
I worked for the White County News and covered White County Schools for 5 years. I attended every BOE meeting in that time. In 2018 I left the paper and successfully ran to represent you on the board.
During my term, the board and I oversaw the addition of 2 free pre-k classes for our system. We got through the very difficult years of COVID by offering parents and students the option of in-person classes or virtual classes. We have worked to attract and retain excellent teachers and staff, while LOWERING the millage rate every year. We are improving our facilities without raising taxes and by using that E-SPLOST penny, a lot of which is paid by tourists. And with the assistance of the County Commission and the Sheriff's office, we have increased the number of school resource officers.
Candidates always say they don't have an "agenda." My goal is simple – to have the best school system in the state as part of a thriving, dynamic community.
